Everything You Need to Know About KöR vs Zoom Whitening
It seems like tooth discoloration happens overnight. One morning you wake up and notice your smile is not the shade of pearly white it used to be. So what’s the best thing to do?
You could go to the store and pick up some whitening strips, but they’re not the best bang for your buck. Not to mention you have to struggle with putting on the sticky strips and playing the waiting game. Plus, over-the-counter whitening techniques don’t last very long nor do they brighten your smile much.
The truth is that few things can brighten and rejuvenate your smile the way professional whitening can. Bright, white teeth look young, clean, and healthy. The easiest way to get your pearly whites back is to make an appointment with your family dentist.
When scheduling your appointment, let your dentist know you’re interested in professional whitening services. Most family dentists offer two or three options for whitening. Two of the most popular methods available are KöR and Zoom – Joyner Dental Arts in Cedar Rapids, Iowa offers both. Your dentist should spend some time describing the benefits and cost of both kinds so you can weigh your options.
Here’s what we’d like to you know about KöR and Zoom whitening:
Do you have resistant stains on your teeth? If so, a round of KöR treatments is probably a great choice for you. If you’ve tried other whitening products before (whitening toothpastes, strips, mouthwashes, etc.) and haven’t seen the results you’re looking for, we recommend KöR whitening.
KöR is great for anyone who has highly sensitive teeth because it has desensitizing agents in the formula. Technically speaking, KöR treatments contain desensitizers that “plug the orifices of dentinal tubules during whitening,” (KöR whitening) thus preventing uncomfortable sensitivity.
If you choose to receive your treatment at your dentist’s office, it should last between 60 and 90 minutes. Depending on your comfort level and dental needs, you may be able to complete your whitening treatment at home.
Most tray whitening treatments produce 25-35 minutes of whitening, whereas KöR-Seal Trays are specially formulated to achieve at least 6 hours of active whitening.
Zoom Teeth Whitening is also a great choice because it is a high-quality method. Zoom offers a full range of options based on your current needs.
If you choose Zoom, your dentist will take a look at where your smile is now and help you picture what it will look like after the whitening treatments.
Zoom was created to be pain-free, safe, and sustainable. A lot of patients like this method because of its effectiveness, however it takes a bit longer than KöR. You can expect to receive a routine cleaning before your Zoom treatment and to be in the chair for a total of 90 to 120 minutes, depending on your current smile shade.
Your treatment will begin with a short preparation to cover the lips and gums, leaving the teeth exposed. Your dentist or hygienist will then apply the Zoom whitening gel, which works in tandem, with the Zoom light, to penetrate the tooth surface and break up stains and discoloration.
The gel will stay on for about 15 minutes while the light is activated. During this time, you can relax, listen to music, or watch TV if your dentist gives you the option. Most patients receive three 15-minute Zoom sessions for a total treatment time of 45 minutes.
